CONLANG Digest - 11 Dec 2008 to 12 Dec 2008 (#2008-342)---wash/warsh etc.

I grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska and I still say 'warsh' for wash when I'm
not speaking carefully. I also say "ruf" and "rut" (with a vowel close
to that in put) for roof and root and "crick" for creek. On the other
hand, I often say root for route (as in "paper route"). Mary, merry and
marry are homophones for me, but I distinguish w and wh and pin and pen.

I went to school in the Boston area for awhile and thought for a year
the sister of one of my friends was named "Normer" instead of Norma.

I'm not sure what my dialect is called-- it must be close to Standard
American English except for the wash, root, roof, and creek pronunciations.

Although I conlanged actively in Junior High/High school (as a result of
taking French and Latin), I haven't done so recently, so I've been
mostly a lurker on this list.
