Neither he nor I can be considered a "ben" expert...
he's 100% Tokyoite, and I'm becoming one too.  As for
the verbal _iu_, the correct form is as spelt here,
not with a y.  It is pronounced /jW/, if I got the
correct notation there.  In some regions, quite
commonly in Tokyo too, it becomes like the word you in
English.  The past is technically _itta_, but often
becomes _yutta_.  Beyond this, my partner could offer
no more, as he never thinks about this stuff.  :/
