English place in the Germanic Lingo Family

I find that English seems to have alot more in common with the Northern
at times than it does with the Western Germanic. Some could just be loan
words, but .. Just how we do things. After all the Anglo-Saxons seem to
have been halfway between the further to the south Germanic tribes, and
the northern Germanic tribe in Denmark and beyond.. Why not, Beowulf is
in the Danish lands, but in English.. Interesting..
