Putting the J in Sleep

so, i have a friend who i was talking to on AIM earlier this morning,
my time, which translates as late night his time...

And the conversation went like this:

HIM: you are follish
ME: maybe, but you're foolish and that's a real word! ;-)
HIM: ah, you haven't learned my language yet have you
HIM: follish boy
HIM: ;-)
ME: is that supposed to rhyme with "polish" or "fall-ish"? :P
HIM: its actually pronounced jeghah
ME: is that J like an English J, French J, or Yugoslavian J?
HIM: it depends on the time of day
ME: ooooh
HIM: now its like the j in sleep
HIM: I think I'm goign to head to bed

So, has anyone ever come up with a conlang where the pronunciation of
individual phonemes varies by some seemingly-arbitrary variable, like
the time of day? Or the dominant color of the speaker's surroundings?
Or what the speaker ate for lunch? Or...?
