I have considered and am still considering a featural script along the lines of Tolkien's scripts, and also Hangul. I just can't come up with something that pleases me! So for now, I'm using adapted Hebrew/Aramaic or Latin transliteration. What you said is what I have in mind actually... actually the diacritics, written below the /X\_wruf/ (letters) as in Hebrew, indicate both vowel (either /@/ or /a/) and secondary feature; there are six in all, plus an accent mark (like the <meteg>). Gemination (/t@Sdid/) is marked above the letter. I did try to "Latinize" the Ethiopic/Ge`ez syllabry once, incidentally.
