Or sometimes capitals were compromises, as with Tallahassee, Florida. When Florida was acquired from Spain it was originally divided into two territories, West Florida, with its capital in Pensacola, and East Florida, with its capital in St. Augustine. When the Americans merged the two territories, there was a period when both cities were used as a capital, alternating each year, but then after a while, a new capital was chosen which was in the middle. Of course, today, most of the big cities of Florida are in the peninsula.

Same here, altho I think that 9th grade was my last year that we had a specific "geography" class.
