The subject says it all. People have been talking about it all
willy-nilly, and I haven't understood much of it. Does anyone care to
explain?

Gemination is when the the consonent is lengthened or doubled just like vowel
lengthening. This is probably an over simplification and you should get a
second opinion. I may be forgetting something about the subject. Oh and by
the way, gemination is not found in words like apple where two of the same
consonents come together, it is found in compounds, though I can't think of
any now.
