English-esque Vocabulary Range

Oh no, now you've gone and done it.  Now you're going to make me create a
new language that Asha'ille can borrow from so that it can have lots of
synonyms with different shades of meaning.  I hate you.  ;)

I think this other language will have to be significantly different in
terms of phonology.  Um, just 'cause.  I already have three related
languages in pre-embryonic stages (the direct parent language, Gharchove;
Old Asha'ille, aka Sarenshille; and Proto-Ille-Gharchove), so I don't want
this other language to sound like that language family.

Several people have recently complained about accidentally reinventing a
word which had already existed in their language.  Seems to me that
_intentionally_ doing that could help with the synonym thing.  I really do
like all the vocabulary English has...  Has anyone else wanted to go for
English levels of polysemy (or higher)?  How have you gone about acheiving
this?
