Strange, I've never heard a Wallon speak Dutch. They were all unable and/or unwilling :)) . Note that the Flemish are not better with the French language ;))) . This situation is so interesting to me that I reproduced it in IB's France with the Franciens and the Gaulhóscs :)) .

No it's not. I've always learned that it was a borrowing from German "Wagen". And that's what my French dictionaries have always claimed. Why the "-on" ending I've read once about it but can't remember the reason. But it's certainly *not* a borrowing from English.
