But, ObConlangishly, they were cited independently (of me) also by John Fisher, of Elet Anta, whose presence on this list is missed. IIRC he has a (near-)RP accent, like me. Other minimal pairs that work for me are madder (brown) : madder (more mad), gladden (iris) : gladden (make glad), lagging (insulation) : lagging (dawdling), possibly can (verb) : can (noun). AFAIK these sorts of contrast do not occur systematically within any single accent, but do occur sporadically among speakers who have phonetic lengthening of /&/ in some environments. --And.
