Just curious -- what part of Africa are you focusing on? You mention Swahili, so are you talking about say, the Serengeti, or the Congo? (My conculture the Techians are north of you then -- they came from Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya... basically the northern parts of the Great Rift Valley, where mankind is said to have been born (hey, it could agree with the Bible, since one of the rivers in the Garden of Eden just happens to be in Cush, the Hebrew name for Africa...)
