Hi all,

I realized I screwed up some of the Phaleran data:

> (2) a. pyaka pongeiyullu atherul > head.ABS sword-3Sg-ERG father-3Sg.ABS > > sallei(lu) yenauþnuntia > who(ERG) pain-CAUS-3SgPfPxRe-S-Q > > 'Whose[i] sword made his[i] father's head hurt?' > > b. *pyaka pongeiyullu sallei(lu) > head.ABS sword-3Sg-ERG who(ERG) > > atherul yenauþnuntia > father-3Sg.ABS pain-CAUS-3SgPfPxRe-S-Q > *'Whose[i] sword made his[i] father's head hurt?'
In both cases, equivalent of "his father's head" is a head- marking structure, literally "the father his-head". But as I have it above, it means "the head his-father". So the 'pyaka' should be 'pyakal', and the 'atherul' should be 'ather'. But this is not relevant to the larger question at hand of binding. ========================================================================= Thomas Wier "I find it useful to meet my subjects personally, Dept. of Linguistics because our secret police don't get it right University of Chicago half the time." -- octogenarian Sheikh Zayed of 1010 E. 59th Street Abu Dhabi, to a French reporter.
